December Update

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you for your continued support. I do appreciate it greatly.

This month I want to tell you about a very humbling and unexpected event that happened here a few days ago. The Wesleyan Mission here at Zimba had an old Toyota HiLux that had been replaced. So it was just sitting here not used. We had a missionary council meeting and the idea was brought up to give the vehicle to a rural health care clinic. We discussed the idea and it was decided upon.

The truck was prepared to be given to Siatchetema Rural Health Care Clinic. The truck was presented to them and they were so happy. They needed something to transport patients who are very ill to a larger hospital. They had been relying on a truck from a town 45 km away to come when they needed. Needless to say, this was less than ideal. Anyway, they were very happy to get the truck and so they organized a celebration ceremony for the arrival of the truck. Some very important people were there. The head chief of the whole Siatchetema area and a bunch of local village head men were there, the medical administrator, district superintendent, and a couple of representatives from the Zimba Mission. Me and Selinda another missionary from Zimba were picked to go. I had to drive the other missionary and the medical administrator. We got there and were promptly marched up front of the room along side the head chief, village head men, the district superintendent, and head of the clinic. We were treated like royalty. There was quite a program with singing and dancing. Each one gave a speech; some were longer than others, and Selinda gave a speech as well. We were told that they had been praying to God to meet this need and that we were the answer to their prayers. Their words and actions made us both feel very humbled and honored.

I don't think I have ever been told I was part of an answer to prayer. The head chief and the others talked about a plan on how to take care of the vehicle as well, with diesel and general maintenance. They were taking ownership, which is a good thing. The whole day was a wonderful experience.

This whole experience made me think of Acts 20:35 -
"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

Thank you again for your support and have a wonderful holiday season
